John Barrett served on the Board of Trustees at Southwestern for more than a decade and during his tenure served as the Chair of the Board. Mr. Barrett has over 40 years’ experience in the Real Estate and Construction industry the last 22 years of which have been in position of management at Tutor-Saliba Corporation and Tutor Perini Corporation. Mr. Barrett’s expertise in Real Estate was a great benefit to the law school as he was integrally involved in the purchase of the historic and beloved Bullocks Wilshire building while he was Chairman of the Board.
As both a licensed attorney and a Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Barrett has been responsible for Tutor-Saliba Corporations tax planning and compliance functions for corporate, partnership, and joint venture activities. He also acts as Corporate Counsel with respect to general corporate, real estate, and partnership business operations. Mr. Barrett has an under-graduate degree from University of California at Los Angeles, and a Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School. He served for over 12 years as a senior partner at Coopers & Lybrand LLP, being a Member of Firm Council and the Partner-in-charge of the Los Angeles, Southern California and Arizona Tax practices. He is a member of the California Bar and Society of Certified Public Accountants.
